Woman's Legal Education Society Records 1988-1923, 1941

The Woman's Law Class of New York university was founded in 1890. It was innovative in that few law schools of the period admitted women. The collection is small but valuable in that it provides information regarding the origin and development of Woman's Law Class and Women's Legal Education Society in their early years. The papers of the are divided into four series: general correspondence, material dealing with the Woman's Legal Education Society (WLES), materials pertaining to the Woman's Law Class (WLC) and printed material.

Henry Mitchell MacCracken, Presbyterian minister and university administrator, was born on September 28, 1840 at Oxford, Ohio. Graduating from Miami University in 1857, he served as a school superintendent and principal before attending Princeton Theological Seminary.
